It may be the last weekend of summer, but Labour Day weekend doesn’t mean the end of summer fun! With plenty of attractions and festivities offered throughout Mississauga, keeping you and your family busy for the upcoming long weekend won’t be a problem. Here are my top five recommended ways to spend your Labour Day weekend here in Mississauga:

MuslimFest 2019 (Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1)

Returning for another year is the popular MuslimFest, an award-winning festival held at Celebration Square. As the largest of its kind in North America, the festival has earned national recognition for creating a unique opportunity for all.

A lineup of local and international Muslim artists will keep you entertained throughout both days. Comedy shows, a multicultural bazaar, a kids’ carnival and educational workshops provide other ways for the whole family to have fun. Come see for yourself why this festival has the amazing reputation it does!

Toronto’s Centre Island – Toronto Islands

Besides the well-known Centerville Amusement Park, Centre Island is home to beautiful fountains, picturesque gardens, a sandy beach and more! Far Enough Farm is home to more than 40 different farmyard species and exotic birds and provides the opportunity to get up close and personal to many of them.

Don’t want to pack a picnic? No worries! Centre Island has many food outlets scattered over the entire island, offering options for the whole family.

Getting to the island itself is a fun adventure – take the 15-minute ferry from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal to start your day.

Canadian International Air Show (August 31 – September 2)

Attending the Canadian International Air Show is a tradition for many Mississauga residents every Labour Day weekend.

This year marks 70 years of the jaw-dropping show and to celebrate, a brand new show will be experienced. The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s Aerobatic Team, will make a special appearance to help celebrate this monumental anniversary.

Like other years, the show will also feature the crowd-pleasing Canadian Forces Snowbirds. Get ready to witness the extraordinary aerial moves performed by nine skilled pilots from across the nation!

Shop ‘til You Drop

With school starting soon, the Labour Day weekend is your last chance to complete any necessary back-to-school shopping! And where better to complete that then Square One, the biggest shopping mall in Ontario?

For 362 years a day, Square One offers over 330 shopping, dining and entertainment options. Shop at some of the best retailers including Holt Renfrew, Zara and Simons and dine at one of the seven onsite restaurants or food court.

Other notable shopping experiences include the Erin Mills Town Centre, the Dixie Outlet Mall, and Sherway Gardens.

Mississauga offers so much that the upcoming long weekend is really just another opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends!

If you have out of town guests visiting you this long weekend, why not pre-book them a stay at Platinum Suites, amazing furnished apartments in Mississauga? Conveniently located across the street from Square One, these short term rentals provide the perfect accommodations for visiting family.
