How to Feel Like You’ve Left the City while Staying in Mississauga

As a visitor in Mississauga, there’s plenty to do in the city to keep you and your family busy.

But after visiting some of the shopping malls, museums and indoor amusement centres, you may be craving some time in the great outdoors. If so, you’re in luck! Mississauga has plenty to offer to you and your family outdoors, too. Below are my top five favourite outdoor attractions in Mississauga.

Enjoy Mississauga’s Hiking Trails

Is there anything better than a hike that incorporates beautiful views of the waterfront? Waterfront Trail is one of my all-time favourite hiking trails in Mississauga. As part of a larger trail that connects Windsor to Quebec, the Mississauga portion runs parallel to Lake Ontario from Winston Churchill Boulevard to Marie Curtis Park. This paved path is perfect for strollers and wheelchairs and offers breathtaking views of Lake Ontario for a total of 13 kilometres.

Culham Trail is another one of my favourite ways to experience Mississauga outdoors! Divided into two sections, the Culham Trail is located from Dundas Street to Mississauga Road (Streetsville) and Church Street to Velebit Court. The trail easily connects The University of Toronto Mississauga, Erindale Park, Streetsville Memorial Park and Riverwood Community Centre.

Whether you and your family choose to do the entire 12-kilometre Culham Trail or not, be sure to leave time to enjoy a picnic at either the start or end of your hike! Both Erindale Park and Meadowvale Conservation Park have great picnic areas that provide easy access to the trail, too.

Come Face to Face with Nature in Mississauga

As a 150-acre natural area that’s rich in history, Riverwood Conservancy is a hidden gem in Mississauga!

Access the property free of charge and use its public trail system to enjoy a self-guided walk with your family. Experience the conservancy’s beautiful setting, which includes woodlands, meadows and ravines. Keep an eye out for some of the 475 species of animals and plants that grace this special place. Consider enjoying the property’s bird trek and be ready to feed birds right out of your hand! Plus, be sure to check out the various free, educational adult and family programs that are run by volunteers.

Experience a Beautiful Park Setting in the Heart of Mississauga

Located in Mississauga’s city core, Kariya Park was created in honour of Mississauga’s sister-city in Kariya, Japan.

From meandering walkways around a serene pond to gardens full of beautiful landscaping, the park provides the perfect place to destress while remaining downtown.

Easily access the park using the entrance on Kariya Drive, just off Burnhamthorpe Road east of the Mississauga Civic Centre.
